About john plauché
John Paul Plauché, creator/founder of the Houston based “design-all” studio Plodes , is pleased to be
returning to the International Contemporary Furniture Fair with new creations that exhibit his unique and
forward-thinking design concepts, combining his passions for art, product, furniture, and architecture.
Mr. Plauché hopes to once again gain exposure for his contemporary artifacts, and is currently seeking
retailers for select designs, as well as custom commissions. The work available through Plodes Studio
reflects John’s innate ability to combine highly developed conceptual intent with innovative processes and
a unique understanding and appreciation of materials.
Plodes is again presenting its highly acclaimed “Barnacles;” adaptable storage pods inspired by a type of
marine crustacean that remains attached to submerged surfaces. Having gained attention from the press
for these chaotic, yet elegant glass fiber pods, Plodes newest designs are eager to make their own way into
the spotlight.
With such positive feedback upon the prototype of the Waveform shelving at ICFF 2005, Plodes is pleased
to announce the unveiling of the streamlined shelving in 12 distinct colors. These smooth, rippled, tileable
shelves merge mathematical from with an everyday practical need while, much like the barnacles, allowing
the end user to install their own composition.
Plodes new reDO chair makes its entrance this year as a limited edition piece that plays with the identity of
the soon-to-be-extinct aluminum tube web chair. Its material and design updates “accentuate its covertly
true modern form” and elevates the chair on a level playing field with similar Bauhaus modernistic chairs
from years past.
Continuing with his “design-all” mentality, John Plauché has also embarked into creating jewelry. The debut
of da Jesus, a non-traditional “cross” pendant necklace, solidifies yet another avenue of design that Plodes
can deliver.
John Paul Plauché, a native Texan who lives and works in Houston, opened Plodes Studio in 2003, after
receiving a BA in Architecture from the University of Houston’s Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture. John
began exhibiting his “plodes” in 2004 with the help of Metropolis’ first ever design NEXT competition and
has continued to exhibit from New York to Houston, and has gained retailers in Houston,TX,
Washington,DC, and St. Louis, MO.
